SIGN UP
When college students are feeling stressed and looking for ways to relieve their discomfort, they can head to the Appstore and download Faux Paws, the App for Comfort and Companionship. Students first sign up for the app by providing credit card information as a form of payment, and they also electronically sign a liability waiver to ensure that they will take good care of the dogs. Students then read a little about our nonprofit business and glance at the instructions to understand how our “doggy Tinder” works.
SWIPE LEFT
Once students are signed up for the app, they begin browsing for local shelter dogs with whom they might be interested in spending time. By tapping on the image of the dog, students scroll through multiple photos of the available pups. The photos and information about the dogs, who are all eligible to engage in public activities involving people, are provided by the shelters themselves, and the shelter’s logo of each available dog appears in the upper right-hand corner. Students swipe left to view the next available dog.
SWIPE RIGHT
When students swipe right on a dog, they view the dog’s availability and book a reservation to spend time with the pup for the price of a morning coffee. A car, either provided by the shelter or the university, will deliver the dog to the student’s campus, where the student takes responsibility for the animal. Leashes are provided with each dog, and the dogs also wear a bandana to promote our nonprofit, local shelters, and the “Adopt, Don’t Shop” movement, which encourages the adoption of dogs rather than the purchasing of them from puppy mills and breeders. Students then spend an hour of quality play time with the dogs, which helps them reduce their stress while also giving the dogs the love and affection they so desperately need.
